Bali Deliciousness – Bumbu, the base of all good things.

Just for fun, a little photo journey of home cookin’ in Bali. Bumbu, the base of all good things…..

DSC_1822Two wonderful women (Made Sresti and Made Artika – thank you!!) cooked for me during my stay in Les Village, and they were kind enough to give me a cooking lesson my last day there, as well as reciting recipes so I could write them down. I have been eating well since I got home! Main ingredients found in most dishes: shallot, garlic, ginger, red chili (fairly mild), and sometimes white turmeric root (which I can’t find here so far – only yellow) all of which are lightly sauteed in oil, and the result is – bumbu.

Various beans, rice, tempeh, tofu, liquid bali sugar (coconut palm), cabbage, water cabbage, taro root, potato, tomato, long green beans, eggplant, corn, cassava leaf, kecap manis (sweet soy sauce), horse radish leaf, lime, banana leaf = incredible food!!
